A lobby group, Elimu Bora Working Group, has called on President William Ruto to dissolve the 129-member committee he appointed and return to the previous university funding model. The group argues that the new model has already shown its negative impact, making higher education unaffordable. They claim nearly 600,000 students skipped university placement, with over 23,000 eligible students not applying for university admission in 2023. The group also highlighted that many students eligible for diploma and certificate programs were unable to continue due to high costs. They accuse the government of delaying reforms by forming committees and demand an immediate return to the old funding system to support students.
