Kenyans may soon benefit from increased scholarship opportunities through a new partnership between Lamu County and Sudan’s Red Sea State. The five-year twinning deal, signed by Lamu Governor Issa Timamy and Sudan’s Secretary General Samia Ali Ahmed Oshik, aims to promote study exchanges and tourism. It will foster collaborations in education, environment, fisheries, culture, health, and tourism.
The agreement will facilitate student exchange programs and specialized training, potentially providing more scholarships for Kenyans in Sudanese universities. Timamy, reflecting on past achievements, hopes the deal will enable more Kenyan students to access educational opportunities in Sudan, especially once peace is restored.
Sudan has a history of offering scholarships to Kenyans, with 550 slots allocated in fields like medicine, pharmacy, and technology by 2018. This collaboration also opens doors for Kenyans to invest in the underutilized Port Sudan, enhancing ties between the two nations.
