Kitui MCAs have passed a motion to impeach Finance and Economic Planning Executive Peter Kilonzo.
The motion, introduced by Kiomo/Kyethani MCA Anthony Musyoka, garnered 32 votes in favor and 12 against, with 15 members absent. Speaker Kevin Katisya presided over the session.
A special committee has been established to investigate the allegations against Kilonzo, including constitutional violations, abuse of office, gross misconduct, and financial mismanagement. The committee is expected to deliver its findings within seven days, during which Kilonzo will have the opportunity to defend himself.
Musyoka accused Kilonzo of failing to meet statutory obligations, impeding the county government’s efficiency, and mismanaging financial operations. Specific allegations include violating the Public Finance Management Act, submitting unauthorized memoranda, setting unrealistic revenue targets, and soliciting bribes from contractors.
Additionally, Kilonzo is accused of using his position for personal gain by influencing the drilling of boreholes on family land, contrary to the approved budget.
