City lawyer Donald Kipkorir has praised President William Ruto’s nomination of Dorcas Oduor as Attorney General, announced on Tuesday.
Kipkorir expressed his enthusiasm for Oduor’s nomination, noting that she will become Kenya’s first female Attorney General if confirmed by Parliament and appointed by Ruto.
“I publicly endorsed Dorcas Oduor for the position of Director of Public Prosecutions in 2018,” Kipkorir remarked. “No one is more deserving of this role than Oduor. She possesses the intellectual depth, humility, grace, and experience necessary for the position. Together with Shadrack Moses as Solicitor General, they will advance crucial reforms in the Office of the Attorney General.”
Currently serving as Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Oduor’s nomination follows President Ruto’s recent cabinet reshuffle, which included moving Rebecca Miano to the Ministry of Tourism. Miano had initially been selected as Attorney General after Ruto disbanded his previous Cabinet.
Should she be confirmed, Oduor will succeed Justin Muturi, who has been nominated for the role of Public Service Cabinet Secretary.
An advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Oduor holds a Master of Arts in International Conflict Management, a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Nairobi, and a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Once appointed by the President, Oduor will serve as the principal legal advisor to the Government, representing it in legal proceedings other than criminal cases and performing additional duties assigned by Parliament or the President.
Oduor will also join President Ruto’s newly restructured Cabinet, which includes at least four members from the opposition party, ODM.
