Roads and Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen responded to inquiries about his potential return to elective politics, stating that while he remains uncertain about his future electoral ambitions, any such move is not imminent.
“I don’t know. I take each day as it comes. Currently, my focus is on leaving a lasting impact in my current role,” Murkomen shared during an interview on Obinna TV. He expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve the country as a Cabinet Secretary, emphasizing his commitment to making a meaningful contribution in his current capacity.
Before his appointment as CS by President William Ruto, Murkomen served as the Senator for Elgeyo Marakwet. He had been re-elected for a third term before resigning to take up the CS position. During his tenure as senator, particularly under the Jubilee administration led by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and then-Deputy President William Ruto, Murkomen held the position of Majority Leader in the Senate and was known for his articulate and vigorous debates.
Reflecting on his performance in office, Murkomen underscored his dedication to serving Kenyans diligently and with integrity. “One thing I’m very proud of is that in two years, I have kept my vow not to engage in corrupt activities or scandals,” he stated. Murkomen expressed satisfaction that despite the challenges, no allegations of corruption have been leveled against him during his tenure in the Cabinet.
During the interview, Murkomen also discussed various issues within his ministry and outlined his plans for the country’s transportation sector and beyond.
