Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has addressed his relationship with his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, stating that they remain good friends.
Speaking during a media roundtable on Thursday, Kindiki emphasized that their relationship has not changed.
“Our relationship is the same as it was. We’re good people, good friends,” he said.
When asked about lessons learned from Gachagua’s term, Kindiki declined to comment, noting it would be inappropriate to compare himself with the former Deputy President.
“Allow me not to discuss my brother Rigathi Gachagua. It is wrong to start comparing myself with the person who occupied this office,” he said.
On the question of whether Gachagua’s impeachment process was flawed, Kindiki defended the process, highlighting that it involved the Executive, Parliament, and the Judiciary.
“I see no problem with the process, and if there is an issue, there is a constitutional way to address it,” Kindiki added.
He also dismissed any regrets about taking on the role of Deputy President. “I have no regret for occupying this space,” he affirmed.
Kindiki was appointed Deputy President by President William Ruto following Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment.
Ruto described Kindiki as a tireless public servant, a patriot, and a leader committed to national unity and cohesion. Before his current role, Kindiki served as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration.
