Kenya has committed US$2 million (Sh258 million) to assist over 30 million Sudanese in urgent need of humanitarian aid.
President William Ruto, speaking at a High-Level Humanitarian Conference for Sudan in Addis Ababa, reaffirmed Kenya’s support, alongside IGAD, for a negotiated settlement to end the suffering in Sudan. He urged warring factions to embrace inclusive dialogue, emphasizing that peace cannot be achieved through military means.
The conflict, which erupted in April 2023, has displaced millions and worsened Sudan’s vulnerability to climate change, droughts, and famine. The UN warns that the crisis continues to escalate, pushing communities to the brink of survival.
