A total of 1,693 candidates achieved a straight A in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), marking an increase from the 1,216 students who attained the grade in 2023.
Data from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) reveals that boys outperformed girls in the top grade. In 2024, 1,137 boys scored A plain, compared to 556 girls. Similarly, in 2023, 825 boys earned A plain grades, compared to 391 girls.
National schools dominated the A grades, producing 1,375 students, accounting for 81.22% of all A plains. Extra-county schools contributed 163, private schools 142, and county schools had four students with A grades.
These statistics underline the significant role of national schools in academic excellence.
