Political activist Kasmuel McOure has been compelled to clarify his recent meeting with South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro after photos of the encounter went viral, sparking speculation.
Kasmuel has been a vocal critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration, where Osoro serves as the Majority Chief Whip in the National Assembly. Following the circulation of their photos, some Kenyans accused Kasmuel of colluding with the Kenya Kwanza government.
On Thursday, Kasmuel explained that this was their first meeting, which he used to convey his long-standing criticisms directly to Osoro. “I frequent that members’ club and meet many Kenyans there, including the Majority Whip. It was my first time meeting him, and I seized the chance to voice my concerns: their government has failed us in critical ways—extrajudicial killings, empty promises on service delivery, and a blatant disregard for the rule of law,” he stated.
Kasmuel noted that while they disagreed on many issues, they also found some common ground. He emphasized that he will always take the opportunity to speak truth to power.
Despite being often portrayed by critics as solely a protest leader, he asserted that his leadership ambitions extend beyond the streets. “We had disagreements and a few agreements, and we even shared a laugh before I left for my actual meeting,” he added.
Kasmuel gained prominence during the Gen Z protests that took place from June to July 2024, standing out for his wit, distinctive style, and passion for a better Kenya.
