Justin Muturi, former Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and ex-Attorney General, has defended his tenure in the state law office, dismissing claims of incompetence made by President William Ruto. Muturi asserted that his record speaks for itself, emphasizing that one of his key achievements was ensuring the independence of the state law office, a promise made during the campaign period.
Muturi suggested that Ruto’s remarks were an attempt to divert attention from pressing concerns, particularly the issue of abductions and extrajudicial killings. He insisted that the facts were clear and did not require him to engage in a back-and-forth defense. Regarding the Muslim Endowment Fund (Waqf), which Ruto accused him of delaying, Muturi clarified that the Waqf Act of 2022 does not mandate the creation of such a fund. Instead, he explained, Waqf is a private religious endowment managed by the Waqf Commission, not a state-driven initiative.
