Japan is calling for applications from Kenyan students pursuing courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology. The in-person internship program opened for applications on May 1 and will close on June 20 for IT Engineer candidates, while the deadline for AI engineers is June 30.
The Japanese Embassy in Kenya announced, “This is an exclusive opportunity for AI and tech students to come to Japan and participate in an internship at a Japanese tech company.”
As part of the selection process, applicants will engage in a coding contest scheduled for June 22-23, followed by interviews in July. High-scoring participants will be matched with potential host companies, with final selections made by the end of July. The internships will take place from August to December, lasting one month, with specific durations determined through discussions with host companies.
The program aims to promote diversity in the recruitment of IT talent for Japanese companies and affiliated organizations. It also offers interns from developing countries a chance to learn about international business strategies, advanced technologies, and specialized skills.
Applicants must possess IT or AI-related technical skills and be able to communicate in English or Japanese. Additionally, they must be Kenyan citizens.
Successful candidates will receive comprehensive support from the program office, which includes assistance with internship activities, visa procedures, air tickets, and accommodation. The office will also facilitate the registration, selection, and matching of candidates, as well as training in cross-cultural communication.
Each host company will recruit between one to five interns, and applicants must be fully committed to the internship and training schedule outlined by the program.
