The board of management and parents of Isiolo Boys’ High School have prohibited the newly appointed principal from accessing his office, accusing the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) of failing to honor their agreement.
The board, led by Chairman Mohamed Boru and Parents and Teachers’ Association Chairman Ismail Galma, has collectively resolved not to collaborate with the new principal, citing his previous poor academic performance in several schools he led.
They barricaded the principal’s office and declared they would not allow him to assume his duties until the TSC appoints a different candidate. Parents expressed that the newly posted principal had been rejected by communities in other counties as well.
Wabera MCA Salesio Kiambi criticized the TSC for ignoring their concerns. “It was ill-advised for the Teachers’ Service Commission to dismiss the complaints from the board of management and parents, proceeding with the appointment of a teacher clearly rejected by major stakeholders,” he stated.
Parents voiced their dissatisfaction with the timing of the principal’s transfer, along with that of his deputy, particularly with national examinations approaching in just a few months. They noted that this change has disrupted preparations, as the transferred teachers were responsible for key subjects for Form 4 exam candidates.
The parents and board members reiterated their stance, vowing not to allow the “rejected” principal to take office and threatening to protest if their demands are not met by the commission.
