For the first time, the Immigration Department has introduced berets as part of its official uniform, enhancing the professional image of its staff. The new navy blue headgear, along with a redesigned uniform, was revealed during the graduation ceremony of 286 new immigration officers at the Kenya School of Government, Baringo campus. Immigration Principal Secretary Julius Bitok officiated the event.
The updated uniform, which includes navy blue attire and epaulettes to display officer ranks, is intended to improve the visibility and authority of immigration personnel. Previously, officers wore turtle green trousers and blazers.
During the ceremony, Bitok emphasized the importance of the five-week induction training, stating it equips the officers with the necessary skills to excel and uphold public service values. Immigration Director General Evalyn Cheluget highlighted the role of the training in fostering patriotism and professionalism, urging the officers to approach their careers with determination.
The newly graduated officers will be assigned to nine immigration processing centers, including border points and airports, with Jomo Kenyatta International Airport receiving additional staffing to enhance passport processing services.
