A church service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in Mwiki, Kasarani, turned chaotic yesterday after gunshots were fired by unidentified armed men attempting to storm the venue. The Presbyterian Church of East Africa service was momentarily disrupted, but no injuries were reported.
Tensions flared shortly after Gachagua and his team, including several MPs and leaders, arrived. In a livestream, a group of youths—some allegedly armed—were seen shouting and trying to force their way into the compound. Worshippers screamed and took cover as security quickly shielded Gachagua and contained the situation.
This marked Gachagua’s first public appearance since President William Ruto began a tour of Mt Kenya last week. Gachagua accused Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja of orchestrating the church invasion, though he provided no evidence. He condemned the incident, calling it a shameful act of political intimidation within a place of worship.
Gachagua vowed to continue speaking out, hinting at a forthcoming public statement and more revelations about his rift with the president.
