Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced that 3,500 members of the Green Army will extend their cleanup efforts to residential areas.
On Sunday, despite heavy rains, the team completed their cleanup of the Central Business District (CBD) and prepared to shift focus to neighborhoods. Governor Sakaja assured them that the initiative would continue indefinitely.
He also revealed plans to make their employment permanent and pensionable, depending on infrastructure and performance. Additionally, a Green Nairobi Company will be established to manage waste collection and environmental maintenance.
Joined by nearly 40 MCAs, Sakaja emphasized the collective responsibility of keeping Nairobi clean and urged residents to take part. He noted that President William Ruto had acknowledged the Green Army’s efforts and encouraged them to keep up the good work.
