A team appointed by President William Ruto to review pending government bills has cleared debts worth Sh206 billion, providing much-needed relief for small businesses. The committee, chaired by former Auditor General Edward Ouko, focused on bills below Sh10 million.
National Treasury CS John Mbadi announced that the government would soon start settling these debts, with 95% of the approved payments benefiting small enterprises. The move aligns with President Ruto’s promise to clear outstanding government payments and stimulate economic growth.
The payment of these pending bills is expected to inject liquidity into struggling businesses, reducing financial distress among suppliers. The government has also assured large contractors that their payments will be reviewed and settled in due course.
