Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed frustration over being removed from President William Ruto’s WhatsApp group diary.
He stated that this exclusion has hindered his ability to work effectively, leading to missed important presidential events due to a lack of information.
“If I’m not present at any presidential function, it’s simply because I wasn’t aware of it,” he explained. He noted that he plans to discuss the matter with the president at an appropriate time.
“I always align my schedule with that of the President. If I know about an event, I can adjust my plans accordingly. However, if I’m unaware, I can’t align my schedule, as I also have my own commitments,” he shared during an interview with Citizen TV.
Gachagua pointed out that both he and his Chief of Staff were part of a WhatsApp group diary that contained important updates, but they were removed from it about a week ago, leaving them unable to keep track of the President’s activities.
He emphasized that he attends Ruto’s events whenever he has the information to do so. Gachagua accused certain individuals of deliberately excluding him from the diary to make him appear negligent.
“They want me to arrive late, creating an impression of disrespect. I urge those working around the presidency not to foster conflict between the President and myself. As the Deputy President, elected by the people, I deserve to access the Presidential Diary to align my schedule with his,” he stated.
He remarked that he had previously navigated this process smoothly and never missed functions due to scheduling conflicts.
The Deputy President added that the situation has complicated his work, leaving him uninformed.
“I don’t believe the President would be petty enough to request my removal from the diary; it’s likely just some individuals around him trying to create mischief and paint me as disrespectful or negligent,” he said.
Gachagua concluded by asserting that he is dedicated to his responsibilities and always available for his duties.
