Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua clarified that his recent apology to President William Ruto should not be seen as an admission of guilt. Speaking on Monday, Gachagua explained that his apology was a gesture to clear any unintentional wrongdoings that may have upset the President, though no specific complaints were raised against him. He emphasized that his apology was not an acknowledgment of any allegations or charges against him.
Gachagua also stated that the grounds for his impeachment do not meet the required threshold, and he is prepared to present evidence in Parliament to defend himself. He reiterated that overturning the will of the people is unconstitutional.
In his Sunday address, Gachagua also asked for forgiveness for his wife, Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, in case her work for the boy child had caused any offense to the President. He extended the same apology to MPs for any remarks or actions that may have upset them.
On Tuesday, the National Assembly is set to debate and vote on the impeachment motion filed by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse.
