Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has spoken out following his impeachment by members of the National Assembly on Tuesday night.
In messages shared on his social media, Gachagua expressed that ‘it shall be well,’ quoting Bible verses from 1 Thessalonians and Jeremiah. One verse emphasizes gratitude in all circumstances, while the other highlights the promise of honor.
‘1 Thessalonians 5:18: Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.’
‘Jeremiah 30:19: From them will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing. I will add to their numbers, and they will not be decreased; I will bring them honor, and they will not be disdained. It is well,’ Gachagua wrote on X.
On Tuesday, Gachagua was impeached by the National Assembly, with 281 MPs voting in favor of the motion to oust him, while 44 voted against it, and one MP abstained.
This marks him as the first deputy president in Kenya’s history to be impeached.
Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse presented 11 charges against him, which included gross violations of the constitution, undermining the President, attacking devolution, irregular wealth acquisition, publicly criticizing a judge, intimidating the acting CEO of Kemsa, promoting ethnic division, and insubordination to the President.
Only 233 votes were required to support the motion for Gachagua’s impeachment.
