Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies on Sunday accused President William Ruto of using them as a stepping stone in the 2022 elections, expressing regret over their alliance.
Speaking to PCEA congregants in Laikipia, Gachagua cited early signs of betrayal, including during the election of representatives to the President William Ruto.
“I realized the President was mischievous during EALA voting when Mt Kenya received no seats despite prior agreements. That’s when I knew he used our community to secure the presidency,” Gachagua said.
The former DP urged the Mt Kenya region to reject Ruto in 2027, citing unmet development promises and a lack of prioritized projects. He criticized the affordable housing plan, suggesting it was misplaced and should be left to the private sector.
“We need a government that respects this region. I will lead Mt Kenya into such a government,” he declared, adding confidence in defeating Ruto’s second-term bid.
Gachagua also raised concerns about rising alcoholism among youths and accused the government of neglecting the issue.
He criticized MPs for prioritizing personal interests over regional needs, promising to spearhead their replacement with committed leaders.
Gachagua’s allies echoed his sentiments, claiming that President Ruto had abandoned the region after securing power.
