Fruits are incredibly versatile, suitable for puddings, pies, jellies, salads, appetizers, and as snacks.
In 2023, fruits accounted for 52% of the total horticultural value, with Murang’a contributing 17%, followed by Lamu at 10% and Meru at 9%. Other notable producers include Makueni, Kisii, Taita Taveta, Kirinyaga, and Kiambu.
However, production faces several challenges, including high input costs for seeds, fertilizers, fuel, and labor. Additionally, there are insufficient public and private extension services, along with poor crop management practices among small-scale farmers, which contribute to low productivity.
