The charge sheet alleges that Mwangi conspired with others to defraud Hamsita Patel, trading as Holloway Properties Limited, by forging a land grant (LR NO.20261 IR NO.80202) and signatures of former lands officials Sammy Mwaita and Jane Kanja. He is also accused of obtaining Sh12 million from Onda Concrete Limited by falsely claiming he could lease the disputed land.
Mwangi denied the charges before Milimani magistrate Benmark Ekhubi and was granted a Sh20 million bond or alternative bail of Sh5 million. The case will be mentioned on January 21 for pretrial directions.
The Director of Public Prosecutions approved the charges following investigations confirming Holloway Properties Limited as the registered owner of the land.
This comes a year after Mwangi’s acquittal in the Sh7 billion Anglo-Leasing scandal due to lack of evidence and witness reluctance. Mwangi had previously been charged alongside tycoons Deepak and Rashmi Kamani and former top civil servants under President Kibaki’s administration.
