Kua Ventures, a Nairobi-based impact investor with a focus on faith-driven initiatives, has joined forces with Startup Savanna, a catalyst for innovative entrepreneurship in Kenya. This partnership aims to bolster the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country.
The collaboration will kick off with a pitching competition, where 10 entrepreneurs will vie for the opportunity to secure up to Sh15 million in funding for their businesses. This funding, provided through a mix of secured and revenue-based loans, ranging from Sh5 million to Sh15 million, will fuel the growth and expansion of the selected SMEs.
However, the support does not end with financial assistance. Kua Ventures and Startup Savanna are adopting a holistic approach through their 3C model, which focuses on capital, coaching, and community. The coaching aspect will pair entrepreneurs with local and global mentors to enhance their leadership skills and refine their business strategies. Additionally, the community component will facilitate networking among entrepreneurs within the Kua Ventures portfolio, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
Startup Savanna, a key player in the Kenya Industry and Entrepreneurship Project (KIEP) funded by the World Bank, plays a pivotal role in connecting Kenyan startups with global expertise, investment, and support infrastructure. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of building a vibrant innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Kenya.
During a pitching event held in Nairobi, Peter Fry, Executive Director of Kua Ventures, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership’s potential to drive sustainable growth and social change. He emphasized the importance of supporting local entrepreneurship and its impact on job creation and poverty reduction.
Jackson Kinyanjui, the lead of the Startup Savanna implementing team, echoed Fry’s sentiments, highlighting the critical role entrepreneurs play in the economy. He emphasized the need to provide platforms for entrepreneurs to learn, grow, and contribute to economic development.
The 10 ventures that pitched at the event represented a diverse range of sectors, including green energy, education, agribusiness, hospitality, events management, and laundry services. These ventures include TLC Laundry, Duhqa, The Laundry Lady, Irish Events & Catering, Event Automation Solutions, Plexus Energy, Victoria Kids Care, Deevabits Green Energy, and GenePlus Global.
The collaboration between Kua Ventures and Startup Savanna signifies a significant step towards fostering innovation, creating jobs, and driving economic growth in Kenya. Through their combined efforts, these organizations aim to empower local entrepreneurs and propel them towards success in the global marketplace.
