Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has pledged that the Kenya Kwanza government will provide affordable, accessible, and equitable healthcare for all Kenyans.
Speaking on Citizen TV, Duale emphasized the government’s commitment to fighting corruption within the Ministry of Health. He asserted that no amount of pressure or intimidation from cartels would deter him from his mission.
“I will deliver healthcare to Kenyans, and no cartel will stop me. My life is in God’s hands, not theirs. I’m not scared,” said Duale.
He added that he only takes direction from three entities: President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and the Kenyan people.
Duale also criticized the former National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), calling it inefficient, corrupt, and fraudulent, citing extreme cases like a patient allegedly undergoing ten knee surgeries in one month.
He is the third Health CS to take over the ministry, following Susan Nakhumicha and Dr. Deborah Barasa, who struggled with the implementation of the Social Health Authority (SHA) and doctor strikes during their terms.
Despite previous efforts, healthcare reforms have been slowed by ongoing disputes between doctors and the government, with unresolved issues continuing to spark protests.
