Dr. Kennedy Odede, Founder and CEO of Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO), has been celebrated for his impactful community initiatives that have significantly improved the lives of residents in the Nyanza region.
During his recent coronation as Deputy Chairman of the Luo Council of Elders in Rarieda, James Ayaga praised Odede’s efforts, highlighting his rehabilitation of water pans, provision of scholarships, distribution of maize seeds, and the launch of youth and women empowerment programs across Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya, and Migori counties.
“What our son Odede has accomplished in this region is commendable,” Ayaga stated. “I urge all residents of Nyanza, including political leaders, to support him in implementing programs that can transform our communities.”
Ayaga shared his firsthand experience of Odede’s work in Nairobi, expressing admiration for his contributions throughout Kenya. “Odede is our son. We want to welcome him home and support his initiatives because he is making a difference,” he added.
He also expressed gratitude to Odede for his assistance during the installation preparations, noting, “I appreciate him for respecting and supporting our community traditions.”
In a message conveyed by SHOFCO Urban Network (SUN) Kisumu County Chairman Allan Metho, Odede emphasized the importance of culture and tradition in fostering community unity. “Our culture and tradition are vital; we should document them for future generations,” he remarked. “Preserving our culture enriches our lives and strengthens community cohesion.”
In June, Odede was honored as a Luo elder by 40 elders, recognizing his significant contributions despite his youth. He recently launched a new three-story community center in Siaya aimed at enhancing empowerment initiatives. This center will provide programs for women and youth, featuring a school library, tailoring workshop, gender office, community hall, and computer lab.
“Our goal is to create opportunities for our youth and women, equipping them for the job market and empowering them to be voices of reason in their communities,” Odede stated at the launch.
The coronation followed a meeting with Luo Council of Elders Chairman Ker Odungi Randa, who acknowledged Odede’s substantial contributions to Kenya and expressed his blessings for his work. “I’m delighted to see you today; I bless the work of your hands,” Ker Randa said.
The installation ceremony was attended by numerous political leaders, including Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, reflecting the strong support for Odede’s vision and efforts.
