Marking the occasion on his X account, Trump praised Melania as “an extraordinary wife and a wonderful mother.” He wrote, “Celebrating 20 years with my beautiful wife and our incredible First Lady, Melania. You’re an extraordinary wife and a wonderful mother. Happy Anniversary.”
The couple’s story began in 1998 when they met at a New York Fashion Week party. In a 2016 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Melania recalled how Trump, though on a date, asked for her number. She declined but suggested he give her his instead. “I wanted to see what kind of number he would give me — if it was a business number, ‘What is this? I’m not doing business with you,’” she said. Trump provided all his contact details, including those for his office, Mar-a-Lago, and his New York residence. Melania called him after a few days, later noting she was impressed by his energy and vitality.
Trump proposed to Melania in 2004 at The Met Gala, and the two married on January 22, 2005, in Palm Beach, Florida. Their ceremony was held at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea, followed by a reception at Mar-a-Lago with 350 guests in attendance. They share one child, Barron Trump, born in 2006, who is the youngest of Trump’s five children from three marriages.
