The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has transferred and reassigned 51 newly promoted Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to enhance efficiency across its forensic and operational units. According to an internal circular, the officers have been posted to specialized units based on their expertise.
Among the notable reassignments, Tom Wafula has joined the Forensic Ballistics Unit, Maryanne Musyoki has been posted to the Forensic Biology Unit, and Catherine Lomaria to the Cyber Forensics Unit. Other transfers include Lameck Masiko to the Document Examination Unit, Paul Abaya as deputy County Criminal Investigations Officer in Mandera, and Walter D. Marunga to Naivasha.
The changes, part of the DCI’s modernization strategy, were initiated by DCI Director Mohamed Amin to improve service delivery and investigative capacity. The agency has recently emphasized strengthening specialized units with advanced training and modern forensic tools. The promoted officers are expected to play key roles in improving forensic processes and investigations nationwide.
Additionally, 49 officers from various ranks, including the General Service Unit (GSU) and others stationed in Nairobi, Mandera, Bungoma, and other regions, have been promoted following successful completion of the Higher Training Course (HTC) and Senior Training Course (STC). These six-month leadership and management programs, conducted at the National Police Colleges in Kiganjo and Emali, aim to prepare officers for leadership roles.
Eliud Kinuthia, chairperson of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), stated that these promotions are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen police leadership, with 183 officers set to join the 515 Chief Inspectors promoted since 2019.
