A team of homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has joined the investigation into the murder of Molo-based activist Richard Otieno. Otieno was found dead in Elburgon, Nakuru County, on Saturday, January 18.
Led by Homicide Director Martin Nyuguto, the detectives visited the crime scene and met with the victim’s family, assuring them of a thorough probe. Police have not made any arrests or established a motive yet.
The investigation will focus on the circumstances surrounding Otieno’s murder, reported threats against him, and three unidentified individuals who allegedly trailed him before the attack. His widow, Margaret Mwihaki, confirmed that her husband was being followed before he was killed outside their gate.
A postmortem examination is expected soon. The body was initially taken to the Elburgon morgue but was forcefully removed by a protesting crowd that condemned the killing and blocked the Molo-Elburgon-Nakuru road. Authorities later relocated it to Kericho County Referral Hospital morgue to prevent further disruptions.
