DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa has made it clear that he has no interest in joining the Kenya Kwanza government in any capacity, including as Attorney General or Cabinet Secretary.
He emphasized that he would not accept any job offer from the current government led by President Ruto.
“What I desire cannot be provided by Ruto. I am not seeking a position in his government. I have no intention of becoming one of his ministers, nor do I seek financial gain from him,” stated Wamalwa.
The former Defence Cabinet Secretary under Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed his reluctance to even consider the Attorney General position, asserting that it would be a step down for him after serving as Justice Minister following the 2010 Constitution’s promulgation.
“The AG’s office was a division within my ministry when I served as Justice Minister during the constitution’s implementation. How could I now be demoted to a department head after having been a minister?” he questioned.
Wamalwa highlighted his extensive experience as a minister in past governments, including his leadership of the substantial Devolution Ministry overseeing all 47 county governors.
“I managed the Kenyan Defence Forces, comprising the Army, Air Force, and Navy, during my tenure at the Defence Ministry. I have no interest in any ministry in Ruto’s administration,” he affirmed.
The former CS reiterated his ambition to pursue the presidency of the country.
“My goal is to occupy the position currently held by Ruto. Do you think he would relinquish it to me? That is the only role I am aiming for,” he declared.
Wamalwa stated his support for Gen Z protesters opposing Ruto’s government, advocating for their collaboration to establish an alternative government.
“I stand with the Gen-Z youth to remove Ruto from office and jointly establish our own government,” he asserted.
These remarks from the former CS come shortly after President William Ruto nominated opposition figures to his cabinet, a move intended to stabilize his administration amid protests by Gen Z.
Ruto appointed former governors Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya, along with MPs John Mbadi and Opiyo Wandayi, as cabinet secretaries in his latest efforts.
Speculation abounds regarding who will fill the position of Attorney General after Ruto appointed Justin Muturi to the Public Service portfolio.
Rebecca Miano, initially nominated to succeed Muturi, was reassigned to the Tourism docket, leaving the Attorney General’s post vacant.
Main opposition leaders, including Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Narc Kenya’s Martha Karua, have expressed their reluctance to accept the position.
Reports suggest that the president has offered the position to Azimio opposition leaders as part of his strategy to broaden the government.
The position of East African Community and Regional Development remains unfilled following Ruto’s failure to name a nominee.”
