China has urged developed nations to support Africa in achieving self-reliance, emphasizing that Africa’s development is crucial for global modernization.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that “there will be no global modernization without African modernization” and highlighted China’s commitment to Africa’s stability and growth. He stressed the need for nations to listen to Africa’s concerns and support its path to self-strengthening.
This comes as the U.S., under President Donald Trump, has withdrawn aid, impacting several African nations, including Sudan, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s deep-rooted partnership with Africa, citing the 60-year relationship under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). China has played a key role in Africa’s development, constructing nearly 100,000 kilometers of roads and over 10,000 kilometers of railways in the past 25 years. In just three years, Chinese enterprises have created over 1.1 million jobs in Africa.
As Africa’s largest trade partner for 16 consecutive years, China continues to drive economic growth through initiatives like the Belt and Road cooperation. The foreign minister highlighted the impact of China’s investments, including hybrid rice technology that has helped African farmers combat hunger.
China’s influence in Africa is further seen through major infrastructure projects, such as the Tanzania-Zambia railway, which has boosted production, transport, and communication. Wang Yi reaffirmed that China-Africa cooperation remains strong, with ongoing agreements in financing, public-private partnerships, and cultural exchanges.
