The father of the late IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati was among the grieving relatives who visited Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi to view his son’s body.
John Wafula, 92, traveled from his rural home in Trans Nzoia on Thursday night after receiving the tragic news. He was accompanied by Chebukati’s brothers, his sons Jonathan and Emmanuel, and his widow, Mary Wanyonyi, who currently serves as the Chairperson of the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA).
Family spokesperson Eric Nyongesa confirmed that Mzee Wafula made the journey to be with his family during this difficult time.
Dressed in a black suit, white shirt, and an ivy cap, Wafula appeared visibly shaken as he struggled to come to terms with the loss. At one point, he had to be supported by his other sons.
The family has not yet decided whether to conduct a postmortem. Nyongesa urged the public to refrain from speculation and allow the family time to consult with doctors before issuing further updates.
