First daughter Charlene Ruto has confirmed that her father, President William Ruto, is indeed a chicken farmer.
Speaking to delegates at the United Nations Summit of the Future Action Day in New York on Sunday, Charlene emphasized that agriculture is a vital sector in her country.
“My father is a chicken farmer, and my mother has a green thumb; she’s exceptional with flowers and creates wonderful kitchen gardens,” she shared.
“I, too, am involved in agriculture as a beekeeper. Beekeeping was my entry point into the agricultural world, where I learned about pollination and started selling honey as a business.”
As the founder of SMACHS Foundation, which stands for Smart Mechanized Agriculture and Climate Action for Humanity Sustainability, Charlene highlighted the vast opportunities for young people in agriculture.
“This realization inspired me to establish and support SMACHS,” she said.
She also invited delegates to visit Kenya, showcasing the country’s rich tourism offerings, including its famous swimming lions.
“Allow me to welcome you to Kenya, where you’ll find beautiful beaches and the unique experience of a national park within a city, as well as swimming lions,” Charlene added.
President Ruto operates a farming enterprise in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County. In 2023, he mentioned that First Lady Mama Rachel had imported 5,000 chickens from India.
He raises improved chicken breeds and has an industrial-grade incubator capable of hatching thousands of chicks monthly.
Additionally, Yegen Farms collaborates with IndBro, one of India’s leading poultry research and breeding firms, which exports breeding stock globally.
