Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly condemned the Sunday incident involving an attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at PCEA Mwiki Church, describing it as a national disgrace.
In a statement issued Sunday night, Kalonzo questioned the motive behind bringing violence into a place of worship. “The attack on Second Deputy President Rigathi at Kasarani PCEA Church, Mwiki was a national shame. We call out these militia as workers of inequity and servants of the devil. Why would you commit violence in Church?” he wrote.
The chaos erupted shortly after Gachagua’s arrival, when a group of unknown individuals attempted to disrupt the service, sparking panic among congregants. His security team swiftly intervened, shielding him and preventing the intruders from breaching the inner sanctuary. Gunfire was also reported during the altercation.
Order was later restored after security forces intervened and dispersed the attackers, allowing the service to continue peacefully.
Gachagua, speaking after the incident, expressed concern over the attack, suggesting it was politically motivated. “I don’t understand why goons were sent to attack us during a church service,” he said, adding that there was a deliberate attempt to restrict his movements and interactions.
He was accompanied by MPs James Gakuya, Kamande Mwafrika, Amos Mwago, Jayne Kihara, and Benjamin Mejjadonk, as well as Senator Joe Nyutu, former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala, and MP Mercy Gakuya.
