A burglary victim in Likoni, Mombasa, was arrested after police found 61 mobile phones and other suspicious items hidden in his house during a crime scene investigation.
The incident began when officers at Inuka Police Station responded to a distress call about a break-in at the victim’s rented home. Armed criminals reportedly forced entry by scaling the gate and breaking the steel door with metal bars. They stole a mobile phone and an unspecified amount of cash, leaving the victim with head injuries requiring medical attention.
Upon revisiting the scene, officers discovered a hole in the ceiling, revealing four machetes (one blood-stained), two knives, two televisions, a public address system, and 61 mobile phones of various brands. Also found were a card reader, ID copies, and an East African passport, all bearing the same name.
The victim-turned-suspect was later traced to a clinic, arrested, and taken to Inuka Police Station for further processing. Police have raised concerns over rising burglary cases, linking many to insider information. In another incident, a family in Parklands, Nairobi, lost valuables worth Sh8 million, cash, and electronics after burglars with apparent prior knowledge broke into their home.
