Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has stated that he sees no issue with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga endorsing Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja for re-election in 2027. Speaking on Citizen TV, Babu insisted that his own endorsement comes from God and the people, referencing a recent Infotrak poll ranking him as Kenya’s top-performing legislator.
Despite his public interest in the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, Babu emphasized that his differences with Sakaja are ideological, not personal, and that his role is to push for service delivery in the city. He maintained that Sakaja must fulfill the promises he made to Nairobians.
This follows Raila Odinga’s call for Nairobi leaders to remain united, entrusting Sakaja with overseeing the city’s political affairs in his absence. The move has been widely interpreted as an endorsement, setting the stage for a competitive 2027 race, with Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi also eyeing the seat.
