On September 29, 2024, Azimio la Umoja leaders, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Democratic Alliance Party (DAP K) leader Eugine Wamalwa, and Jubilee’s Jeremiah Kioni, were prevented from entering AIC Kasina Church in Mlolongo. The leaders were en route to a church service accompanied by Safina party leader Jimi Wanjigi when police intercepted them. Kalonzo condemned the government’s actions, describing them as cowardly intimidation, and noted that the police presence had forced the cancellation of their planned political rallies in Kitengela and Mlolongo. He appealed to the new Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, urging him to ensure police are not misused by politicians and to maintain public safety. Kalonzo, who has become a vocal critic of the government, asserted that the opposition is not merely a label but represents a legitimate alternative government ready to take over.
