AfriKonekta has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Google Maps to provide intercity and cross-border bus transit information across Kenya and 15 additional countries within its network, marking a first for the continent.
This collaboration will enable travelers to plan their journeys, compare fares and schedules, and make online bookings and payments seamlessly. By integrating precise transit information into Google Maps, AfriKonekta aims to enhance accessibility for budget-conscious long-distance travelers throughout Africa.
Operating in Kenya and Zambia, AfriKonekta connects to 14 neighboring countries and border towns. With this partnership, users in Kenya can now easily search for available routes on AfriKonekta through Google Maps, significantly improving route planning and convenience.
“This initiative aims to simplify route planning for travelers,” said Tichaona Dande, CEO and Co-Founder of AfriKonekta. “Traveling in Africa can often be chaotic and challenging, especially when planning trips that involve multiple routes or countries. We believe this technology will lead to better trip planning and greater convenience for travelers across the continent.”
Incorporated in Finland, AfriKonekta is a long-distance mobility platform offering a tech-enabled bus travel experience. Since its launch on August 16, 2023, the company has partnered with over 45 bus operators, servicing more than 400 destinations throughout Africa, with plans for expansion into 22 additional countries.
“Our commitment is to foster a connected Africa through deeper regional and continental integration,” Dande emphasized.
