Women’s rights activist Sureya Roble Hersi passed away on Friday morning at a Mombasa hospital and was laid to rest the same afternoon. The wife of hotelier Mohamed Hersi, she was a key figure in Coast politics and the national treasurer of the Pamoja Africa Alliance (PAA). Senate Speaker Amason Kingi and other leaders praised her for championing women’s and children’s rights and promoting inclusivity. Sureya previously held prominent roles, including vice chair of Maendeleo ya Wanawake. Her death has been widely mourned, with tributes highlighting her dedication, warmth, and positive impact on the community.
