At least six people lost their lives overnight in Nairobi following the heavy rains that swept through the city on Monday. Police have raised concerns that the death toll could rise, as some individuals may have been swept away by the rising waters. In the Mathare area, a mother and her two children perished when a massive boulder crushed their home. The boulder fell after a nearby river overflowed, weakening the structure of the house and causing the rock to collapse. The victims drowned after the house was also destroyed.
Meanwhile, in the Mukuru Kwa Reuben slums, one person died after being swept away by floods, and more than 500 residents were displaced. Two additional bodies were recovered from different locations in Nairobi after being carried away by the floods. Rescue teams have been working tirelessly to locate missing persons, with authorities calling for urgent intervention in affected areas. The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned that the rains and thunderstorms will continue, adding to the challenge faced by local residents and emergency teams.
