Two people died in a head-on collision between a Probox and a 14-seater matatu along the Machakos-Kitui road in Kaseve, Machakos County.
Machakos County Police Commander Patrick Lobolia confirmed the fatalities, which included the Probox driver and his passenger. Fourteen others, all matatu passengers, sustained injuries and were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment.
The accident, reported on Friday evening, occurred when the Probox lost control, veered into the matatu’s lane, and caused the crash. Traffic officers responded, clearing the scene and moving the wreckage to Machakos Police Station for inspection. The deceased were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary for identification and postmortem.
Police have launched investigations into the incident.
