A suspect was fatally shot Sunday night during a dramatic police chase in the Njiru area of Nairobi.
Authorities later confirmed recovering a mini Czeska pistol linked to a fatal shooting in Eastleigh, Nairobi, in November 2024. The firearm, which contained five bullets, was retrieved from the slain suspect.
The Eastleigh incident occurred near DD Plaza on November 9, 2024, and resulted in the death of 25-year-old Abdirahim Abdullahi Ibrahim. Surveillance footage showed the gunman firing at close range, hitting Abdirahim just below the ear, with the bullet exiting on the opposite side of his head. The attacker fled with Abdirahim’s mobile phone, leaving the woman he was meeting at the scene. A postmortem revealed that Abdirahim died from excessive blood loss caused by the gunshot wound.
On Sunday night, police reported that they attempted to stop a suspicious motorcycle carrying a pillion passenger along Kangundo Road. The rider ignored the signal to stop and sped toward Mwiki, leading to a brief chase. The passenger disembarked and attempted to escape, taking cover behind a wall and engaging the pursuing officers.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei explained that reinforcements were called in to prevent the suspect from escaping or endangering residents. Police eventually shot and killed the suspect during the standoff.
Investigators linked the recovered pistol to the Eastleigh shooting. The suspect had been arrested on November 22, 2024, in connection with the incident, but the weapon was not recovered at the time.
Police also tied the suspect to a separate fatal shooting in 2023 in Mihango. The victim, Constable David Mayaka of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Makadara, was attacked by three men on a motorcycle while attending to his stalled vehicle in Kayole on August 23, 2023.
Authorities stated that detectives from the DCI, acting on intelligence, had previously conducted an operation in the Kiambiu slums, apprehending a suspect linked to these incidents.
