Amid ongoing threats and displacement, the Ilchamus community in Baringo has turned to conservation efforts to safeguard their land and improve security. Led by local leaders, the community opted to convert Mukutani land into a public forest to reduce violence and enable access to sacred sites. This gazettement has fostered peace and allowed residents to benefit from the forest. However, political resistance remains, with some leaders questioning the process and calling for a review of the 2017 gazettement decision.
