Agriculture PS Paul Ronoh has urged Kenya to adopt sustainable farming practices to combat challenges posed by climate change, food insecurity, and social inequality. Speaking at the National Agroecology Symposium in Nairobi, Ronoh emphasized the urgency of developing agricultural methods that protect natural resources and ensure food security.
The symposium gathered leaders across sectors to explore agroecological practices aimed at enhancing resilience and preserving Kenya’s natural and cultural resources. Highlighting the need for a paradigm shift, Ronoh pointed to droughts and food shortages as pressing indicators of the climate crisis.
Research experts like Ernesto Mendez advocated involving farmers in agricultural research to better address on-the-ground challenges. The event underscored agroecology’s potential in building sustainable food systems, particularly for communities most affected by environmental stresses.
