The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams start today, marking a key part of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Over 1.2 million Grade 6 learners will sit for the exams between October 28 and 30, 2024, across 35,573 centres nationwide.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba supervised the distribution of exam papers from the Kenya National Examinations Council’s Container in Westlands, Nairobi.
On Monday, candidates will take the mathematics paper in the morning, followed by the English paper. Day two will see them sitting for Integrated Science in the morning and Kiswahili/Kenyan Sign Language later. The exams will conclude with Creative Arts and Social Studies on the last day.
Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang noted that the KPSEA exams would not have strict invigilation, allowing a more relaxed environment to reflect class-based assessments. He emphasized that the assessment is aimed at monitoring learner progress rather than issuing certificates, with results set to guide policy and further educational development.
