Detectives have arrested two soldiers linked to the murder of 26-year-old Mercy Kwamboka Rufansi, a University of Nairobi student, whose body was found on September 28 in Mwiki, Kasarani. The soldiers, now in custody, have confessed to the crime and were placed at the scene by investigators.
Kwamboka, a second-year chemistry student at Chiromo Campus, was reported missing after leaving her home in Pipeline, Embakasi. Her partially undressed body was later discovered in a thicket near the Eastern bypass, bearing bruises and injuries, with a black blouse, blanket, and phone found nearby.
According to the investigation, the main suspect picked up Kwamboka that night and took her to his residence in Komarock, where a confrontation ensued, leading to her death. He later called an accomplice to help dispose of the body. Forensic evidence traced the suspects’ movements, leading to their arrest after weeks of search.
Police are investigating charges of murder, rape, kidnap, and robbery. The suspects are set to appear in court as detectives seek more time to continue their investigation.
