A prison warder from Garissa GK Prison killed his wife before taking his own life in Mwingi West, Kitui County. The 54-year-old confronted his 47-year-old wife, a primary school teacher, and fatally attacked her with a panga on Thursday after accusing her of infidelity.
According to area police commander Ephantus Kenyatta, a note believed to be left by the warder suggested he was upset over alleged promiscuity. The couple’s child discovered the mother’s body in a pool of blood and alerted authorities.
Police later found the warder’s body hanging from a tree near the house. Both bodies have been taken to Migwani Level IV hospital morgue as investigations continue.
