The Independent Policing Oversight Authority’s investigative role has played a crucial part in deterring police misconduct, promoting a culture of accountability within the National Police Service, and enhancing compliance with the law, thereby improving access to justice for both victims and the accused.
During this period, the authority reviewed 345 investigation files related to criminal cases and supported the prosecution of 43 cases, including murder, serious injuries, and sexual offences, through watching briefs. Additionally, the Authority assisted in the prosecution of 59 civil cases in which it was named as a respondent in constitutional petitions or involved as an interested party.
