On Saturday, President William Ruto announced that his newly formed unity government, which includes opposition figures, is poised to create the necessary conditions for advancing his development agenda.
Ruto expressed regret over past instances where government programs were hindered by political maneuvering and unnecessary conflict. He noted that opposition members had sometimes opposed beneficial projects purely for political reasons, rather than due to their potential impact on Kenyans.
“I firmly believe that this administration will transform our country and unlock Kenya’s full potential, turning it into the great nation we envision,” President Ruto stated.
The President recently appointed four ODM politicians—Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, John Mbadi, and Opiyo Wandayi—to his cabinet. This move is part of his ongoing tour of the Coast region, including a visit to Kwale County.
Ruto acknowledged that political disagreements often delay progress, with some beneficial projects being blocked due to partisan opposition. He urged a shift away from party and factional politics towards a unified effort for national development.
The President also called on Kenyans to reject negative ethnicity and divisive politics that undermine national prosperity. Speaking at Kinango Technical and Vocational College in Mackinon, he encouraged residents to support his inclusive government, highlighting the appointment of former Governor Salim Mvurya as CS for Trade, which he believes will attract investments.
Ruto condemned protests that lead to property destruction and loss of life, emphasizing that such actions impede the country’s progress. He announced plans, in collaboration with local MP Gonzi Rai, to establish a digital hub in the constituency to create job opportunities for unemployed youths. The government will provide laptops, while the MP will oversee the construction of the center as part of a broader job creation initiative.
Additionally, the President pledged to build five new markets in the constituency, aiming to boost local commerce and employment.
