Twiva, an AI-driven social commerce platform based in Kenya, has been selected as one of nine startups to participate in the Spark Accelerator Program, an initiative by Safaricom. Supported by M-PESA Africa and Sumitomo Corporation, this program aims to accelerate product innovation and business growth for early-stage startups.
The Spark Accelerator Program received over 200 applications from diverse sectors, including embedded finance, fintech, SME productivity tools, and content creation. The selected startups will engage in a comprehensive three-month capacity-building program to develop the skills and resources necessary for success.
Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa emphasized the program’s goal of catalyzing societal change and economic prosperity through tech-enabled startups. “The Spark Accelerator program aims to drive meaningful innovation through technology,” he stated.
Twiva, which utilizes influencers to market and sell products on platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter, stands to gain significant support from the initiative. The startup will receive a comprehensive support package that includes training, mentorship, market access, capital, technology, and product development, facilitated by iHub – Co-creation Hub (cchub).
Founded in 2020, Twiva has been instrumental in transforming retail in Africa by providing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with digital market access and fostering consumer trust in online transactions.
Twiva’s CEO and Co-founder, Peter Kironji, expressed pride in the startup’s inclusion in the program, highlighting its potential to revolutionize social commerce and drive economic growth by enhancing digital market access for MSMEs.
The global social commerce industry is projected to reach $1.2 trillion by 2025, underscoring the significance of initiatives like the Spark Accelerator in shaping the future of retail.
