President William Ruto has reprimanded the contractor for the prolonged delay in constructing Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County. During an impromptu site visit on Wednesday, Ruto expressed frustration over the lack of progress and questioned the stalling of the project.
“You cannot hold us ransom. Starting and abandoning projects is unacceptable,” Ruto said, urging the contractor to admit if they couldn’t complete the work. Despite assurances from the contractor, Ruto demanded tangible results, stating, “You cannot be on-site as a tourist.”
The president set a strict deadline, ordering the stadium’s completion by June 2026, while lamenting its unavailability for the upcoming CHAN games.
This followed Ruto’s earlier warning to the contractor working on the Kisii Cancer Centre. During an inspection, he directed PS Harry Kimtai to issue a final warning, threatening contract termination if delays persisted.
Ruto reaffirmed the government’s stance against stalled projects, declaring, “Contractors delaying key programmes will not be tolerated.”
